Melting Lamb Warming Box Delaware Winter
Early winter light diffuses through heavy overcast skies across a Delaware feedlot lane. A young lamb huddles in the corner of a metal warming box, its fleece thick and gray-brown. The box, typically rigid steel, melts downward like thick wax, pooling into a glossy, amber-colored puddle at the base. This liquid metal flows over the muddy ground, reflecting the dull sky. Beside the pooling substance, wire fencing stands sharp and intact, creating a stark boundary between the impossible flow and the solid rural infrastructure. Layers of the feedlot recede into the distance, showing rows of similar enclosures under the flat, gray afternoon. The lamb remains still, unaware of the fluid transformation occurring directly beneath its hooves. at the edge is a single drip of molten metal hanging from the box's edge, suspended before hitting the mud.
