Dairy Calves in Winter Snow at Ontario Ranch

Silvery winter light falls through falling snow to illuminate a group of young dairy calves huddled near a warming box inside a ranch corral. Drifting snow blankets the ground and rests on the rough wood of a hutch ledger clipped by the door. Metal milk buckets sit in a row, their surfaces dull against the white drifts. The animals press close together, their breath visible in the cold air. Layers of depth recede into the distance where the corral fence fades into the deep night sky. Frost coats the metal edges of the buckets, and the snow piles unevenly around the base of the warming box. A final shadow stretches long across the packed snow near the hutch door.
