Melting Beaver Dam at Qingdao Twilight
Deep shadows cloak a forest stream near Qingdao as city lights begin to glow in the distance. An early summer beaver dam spans the water, constructed of interlaced branches and mud. The rigid wooden structure defies physics, its upper logs softening and dripping like thick wax down the sides. Pools of brown, viscous material gather at the base, merging with the stream flow. Humid air hangs heavy over the wet bark, catching a sharp rim light that outlines the melting edges. The water reflects the faint orange glow of the distant city, while the foreground remains in cool, dark tones. One droplet of wax falls from a submerged branch, creating a perfect ripple on the surface.
