Man Mends Fishing Net in Wet Season Drizzle
by Connor Ruiz
Soft, diffused light from an overcast wet season sky illuminates a man crouched near the coast of Trujillo. Raindrops bead on the heavy, coarse fibers of the fishing net he holds, glistening against the muted gray of the wet ground. He works with deliberate hands, threading a needle through the mesh under the warm, focused glow of a nearby lantern. The lantern's flame flickers slightly, casting a small pool of amber light that contrasts with the cool, blue-gray tones of the drizzle and the damp, weathered wood of the pier beside him. Water runs in thin rivulets down the side of the net, pooling at the man's feet. His posture is low and compact, showing the texture of the wet rope against his skin. at the edge is one drop of rain sliding from the edge of the net, catching the lantern's glow before falling into the puddle below.
