Man Mending Net in Beira Noon Light
Flat noon glare washes the scene in harsh white light while dust hangs low above the packed earth floor. An over-the-shoulder view shows a man seated on a rough wooden crate, his hands working through the tangled fibers of a large fishing net. The net, a chaotic web of weathered hemp and synthetic twine, sprawls across his lap and the ground. Sunlight bleaches the fibers to a pale, sandy hue, highlighting the rough texture of his skin and the calloused grip on his fingers. Behind him, blurred shapes of corrugated metal and rough concrete mark the edge of a market or dockside workshop in Beira. Short, sharp shadows fall directly beneath the subject, showing the heat radiating from the ground. A loose strand of netting drapes over the edge of the crate, catching a glint of light against the muted browns of the surroundings.
