Soft gray light from a monsoon sky falls through the open eaves of a wooden boathouse, illuminating a figure seated on a low stool. Thick strands of wet hemp and synthetic rope lie coiled across the weathered floorboards, their fibers glistening with recent rain. The person’s hands move with focused precision, looping and tightening a complex knot while the damp air hangs heavy in the stillness before sunrise. Behind the subject, the dark interior of the structure recedes into shadow, leaving the workspace defined by the cool, diffused glow. One loop of yellow rope rests against a rough timber post, catching the faint light.
