Man Mends Fishing Net by Lantern in Singapore

Late afternoon light reflects off the wet surface of a Singaporean harbor, illuminating a man seated at the water's edge. He holds a heavy fishing net, his fingers working a wooden needle through the thick, salt-stiffened mesh. A small oil lantern rests on the concrete beside him, casting a warm, localized glow that contrasts with the cool, blue-grey tones of the incoming monsoon rain. Fine sea spray hangs in the air, visible as a shimmering haze against the dark water. The man wears a simple white shirt and dark trousers, his posture focused and rigid. Raindrops bead on the net's fibers, and the wet concrete beneath his feet reflects the lantern's flame in distorted, dancing patches. one drop of water falls from the edge of the net, landing silently in the harbor below.
