Korean Potter Glazing Crane Vase in Twilight Hall

by Seth Wyatt

Indigo twilight fills the high prayer hall near Valle de la Pascua, casting a sodium-vapor orange glow across the wet stone floor. A Korean celadon potter stands centered in perfect symmetry, hands steady as they apply a pale green glaze to a tall vase. The crane motif rises from the clay, its white neck against the darkening vessel. Rain-slicked walls reflect the ambient light, while droplets rest on the rim of a nearby basin. The potter's dark robe absorbs the glow, leaving only the shimmering glaze and the white clay visible. one drop of water falls from the potter's elbow, landing on the floor with a faint ripple.
