Potter Throwing Wide Bowl Nizip Workshop
by Cole Dillon
Soft overcast light fills the workshop in Nizip, illuminating the late afternoon air without harsh shadows. A potter sits at a wooden kick wheel, hands pressed firmly against wet gray clay spinning into a wide, shallow bowl. The clay surface gleams with a slick, fluid sheen, catching faint reflections from the nearby tools and damp floor. Rough plaster walls enclose the space, showing patches of wear and dried mud stains from previous sessions. Early autumn enters through the open doorway, casting a cool, pale tone over the wooden workbench cluttered with wire cutters and sponges. The potter’s forearms are coated in a fine layer of wet earth, moving in rhythm with the spinning vessel. One droplet of water rolls down the rim of the forming bowl, catching the diffuse glow before falling onto the wooden base.
