Korean Hanok Roof in Tiled Taoyuan Stair Hall

by Gordon Jordan

Soft, diffused afternoon light falls through low-hanging spring clouds, illuminating the curved eaves of a traditional Korean hanok model. The structure rests within a narrow, tiled stair hall near Taoyuan, where gray slate tiles cover the steps leading up to the scene. Rain has recently passed, leaving the clay roof tiles glossy and dark, their upturned edges catching the muted sky. Weathered wood beams support the overhang, showing a patina of time and resilience against the damp air. The stairs flank the building on both sides, creating a tight architectural frame. One water droplet rests on the tip of a lower roof tile, waiting to fall onto the wet stone step below.
