Kayaker Surfing Winter River Wave Uttarakhand
by Tony Keller
Low winter sunlight strikes the horizon haze, painting the mountain peaks in soft orange and grey tones above a rushing river. A lone kayaker stands on a standing wave, the boat tilted forward against the white foam. The paddler wears a dark, weathered jacket and a helmet, their posture leaning into the current with visible tension. Cold air hangs over the water, evidenced by the breathless stillness of the surrounding pines and the bare branches lining the riverbank. The river surface reflects the pale sky, while the churning water beneath the kayak creates a frothy texture of white and grey. The kayak's hull cuts through the standing wave, leaving a trail of spray that catches the first light of dawn. One droplet of water hangs from the edge of the paddle blade, suspended in the morning air.
