Kayaker on Standing Wave Near Thamel Kathmandu

A vibrant orange kayak cuts across a churning standing wave on a mountain river flowing beneath a wind-open causeway. The late morning light falls through heavy, dramatic clouds, casting a soft, diffused glow over the scene. Winter air hangs still over the water, where white foam contrasts against the deep grey of the current. On the far bank, the stone and brick structures of Thamel rise in muted earth tones, their details softened by the overcast sky. The causeway's concrete edges create strong leading lines that guide the view toward the paddler, who leans into the turbulence. Ripples scatter across the surface, catching the pale light before dissolving into the shadow of the wave's face. One droplet hangs from the tip of the paddle, suspended in the quiet moment before it falls.
