Kansas Dunes at Dawn Revealing Long Shadows in above dune fields and dry wadis in Kansas

Kansas Dunes at Dawn Revealing Long Shadows

by Regina Weaver

Low sun hangs just below the horizon, casting deep blue shadows across the undulating dune fields of Kansas. Dry wadis carve winding paths through the pale tan sand, their depths obscured by a thin layer of low-hanging clouds that flatten the distant horizon. The turn of seasons leaves the landscape bare, with no grasses to soften the sharp lines of the terrain. Long, dark shadows stretch westward, showing the gentle rise and fall of the dunes. A patch of mist rests on the lowest depressions, blurring the boundary between the dry earth and the sky. The view presents a map-like clarity, where every ridge and trough is defined by the angle of the morning light.
