Gypsum Dunes at Dawn in Saudi Valley
by Dixie Dennis
Soft, diffused morning light washes over the expansive white gypsum dunes stretching across the Saudi Arabian valley floor. The pale sand forms smooth, wind-sculpted ridges that ripple under the early spring sky. A low angle view emphasizes the towering height of the dunes against the pale horizon, where the first hints of dawn break through the overcast layer. Fine grains of gypsum scatter across the foreground, caught in the motion of the whipping wind that blurs the sharp edges of the crests. The scene presents a vast, undulating landscape of mineral white, where the texture of the sand shifts from powdery softness to hardened ripples. Shadows remain faint and gray, blending seamlessly into the bright surfaces. at the edge is a sharp, dark line of shadow tracing the base of a dune where the white sand meets the darker, compacted earth of the valley floor.
