Pale silver dawn light falls through rain-streaked windows, washing the interior of a Tai O jazz club in cool tones. A musician in a heavy wool coat stands center frame, turning the crank of a wooden hurdy-gurdy. Beside the performer, brass instruments rest on dark tables, their surfaces catching the soft glow of warm amber lamps. Outside, traditional stilt houses and canals blur behind the wet glass, visible through the drizzle. A small group gathers close, faces illuminated by the interior light, hands raised in rhythm against the damp air. Droplets slide down the windowpane, marking the edge of the glass with a thin, shifting line of water.
