Heavy Apple Branches at Ghana Tea Plantation Edge

by Joanne Murillo

Thick, dark green apple branches bow low under the weight of ripening fruit along a dirt path. The orchard rows stretch straight into the distance, meeting the orderly terraces of a nearby tea plantation. A broken band of clouds breaks the sky, allowing shafts of bright late-afternoon light to flood the scene. Raindrops rest on the waxy leaves and the red skins of the apples, glistening against the earth tones of the soil. A small shrub frames the right edge of the view, at the base of the composition in the rural landscape. The wet ground reflects the soft gray of the sky while the vibrant green of the tea bushes provides a sharp contrast in the background. Droplets slide from a leaf tip onto the path below.
