Hailstone Field Twilight Rim Light After Storm in over a horizon of stacked thunderheads near Coronel

Hailstone Field Twilight Rim Light After Storm

by Lorenzo Roy

Indigo twilight blankets a dry field scattered with hundreds of white hailstones. Stacked thunderheads dominate the horizon line above Coronel. Deep shadows cover the ground while thin rim light outlines the jagged ice spheres. Ground fog pools in the depressions between the hail, creating soft white mists that contrast with the dark soil. The stones vary in size, some fused together, resting on the parched earth. The dry season is evident in the brown, brittle grass poking through the ice. Shadows stretch long and soft across the uneven surface. A cluster of larger hailstones sits near the foreground edge, catching the last faint glow from the sky.
