Honeyed evening light spills across the white plaster walls of a Greek Orthodox chapel nestled within a monastery corridor in Maputo. The sunset creates pools of warm gold on the smooth stone floor, against the deep, quiet shadows that rest on the corners. Simple wooden icons rest on shelves, their colors muted by the low angle of the sun. A narrow arched window frames a sliver of the sky, casting a sharp beam of light that illuminates floating dust particles. The texture of the aged stone base meets the pristine white upper walls, at the base of the sacred space in its specific location. A final shadow stretches across the threshold, marking the edge of the illuminated area.
