Goliath Heron at Sunset on Normandy Ridge
by Jude Rocha
Rich amber light from the setting sun washes over a wind-scoured ridge in Normandy, illuminating dust that hangs low above the dry earth. A goliath heron stands motionless in a shallow river cutting through the terrain, its grey feathers catching the warm glow. The bird's long neck is held in a rigid, S-shaped curve, embodying patient predatory stillness. An old stone archway in the foreground creates a frame-within-a-frame effect, focusing attention on the large wading bird. The water ripples gently around the heron's yellow legs, reflecting the golden sky. Fine particles of dust swirl in the air, catching the light near the water's surface. The heron's sharp beak points downward, ready to strike, while the rough texture of the stone arch contrasts with the smooth, flowing water.
