Glass Eye Painter in Afyonkarahisar Moonlight
by Karla Orozco
Cold moonlight spills across the workbench, illuminating the dust motes hanging in the thick fog outside the window. The glass eye painter leans forward, a large magnifying glass pressed against their right eye, distorting the iris details into sharp, concentric rings of cobalt and gold. Their face is pale and etched with deep lines of concentration, framed by the dim glow of a single oil lamp that barely pierces the late-night darkness. The workshop walls show signs of age, with shelves holding jars of colored powders and tools resting on worn wood. A faint breath of fog curls against the cold glass of the window pane behind them, blurring the distant silhouette of Afyonkarahisar rooftops. The painter's left hand steadies a delicate glass rod, its tip glowing with the heat of the furnace, contrasting the chill of the room.
