Glass Bridge Over Arizona Canyon Midmorning
by Drake Witt
Bright midmorning sunlight floods a transparent glass-bottom bridge spanning a deep Arizona canyon. The structure stretches straight toward the horizon, creating a perfect symmetrical composition that pulls attention directly into the abyss below. Red sandstone walls rise steeply on either side, their rough, eroded textures against the smooth, unblemished surface of the glass floor. Thin metal railings run along the edges, catching sharp glints of light. Debris and dry tumbleweeds scatter across the walkway, caught by the wind whipping through the narrow passage. Shadows from the railings stretch short and crisp across the transparent planks, revealing the dizzying drop into the rocky depths. A small lizard scurries across a joint in the metal framework, its movement the only disruption in the vast, open stillness.
