Glacial Erratic on Bedrock in Monsoon Light

by Howard Delgado

A massive, weathered glacial erratic rests precariously atop a jagged expanse of bedrock near Keur Massar Sud. The stone surface displays deep fissures and a rough, pitted texture, colored in muted greys and earthy ochres. Soft, diffused light from heavy overcast skies eliminates harsh shadows, casting the landscape in a uniform, cool tone. Water droplets bead on the rock's upper surface, evidence of the ongoing monsoon rain. The surrounding terrain stretches out in a vast, low-lying plain of wet, dark soil and scattered vegetation. From this high vantage point, the isolation of the single boulder emphasizes the scale of the monsoon environment, while a shallow pool of rainwater reflects the grey sky at the base of the rock. The wet ground glistens with a subtle sheen where the water has pooled.
