Georgian Tower and Giant Flower in Nepal Twilight in at the base of a monumental staircase in Nepal

Georgian Tower and Giant Flower in Nepal Twilight

by Kofi Gardner

Steel-blue twilight washes the base of a monumental stone staircase in the Nepalese Himalayas, where a solitary Georgian stone tower house stands incongruously against the mountain slope. The dry season air leaves the ancient masonry clear and textured, its rough gray stones catching the fading indigo light. Rising from the tower's foundation is an impossible flower, its petals reaching the height of a mature tree, dominating the vertical space with a fierce, structural presence. The massive bloom casts a deep shadow across the lower steps, its vibrant colors stark against the cool blue tones of the evening. Leading lines from the staircase draw the eye upward toward the tower's crenellated roof, now framed by the towering petals that block the distant peaks behind them.
