Gargoyle Silhouette Lightning Sky Al Hudaydah in at the foot of a stone altar in Al Hudaydah

Gargoyle Silhouette Lightning Sky Al Hudaydah

by Lee Beard

Cool reflected light fills the high vaults of an indoor sanctuary in Al Hudaydah, illuminating a stone altar at the room's base. A carved gargoyle sits in sharp silhouette against a window or opening where lightning splits the sky outside. The stone surface shows rough, weathered textures and deep crevices that catch the dim, gray illumination. Muted reflections stretch across the polished floor, mirroring the jagged white streaks of the storm. The composition places the figure off-center, adhering to the rule of thirds while showing the solemn gravity of the sacred space. Dust motes hang still in the air, undisturbed by the violent weather beyond the walls. at the edge is the sharp, dark edge of the gargoyle's wing cutting against the bright, fractured lightning.
