Cedar Needles at Observatory Threshold in along a rocky geology outcrop near Downtown, Yangon

Cedar Needles at Observatory Threshold

by Phillip Peck

Rich amber sunlight spills across a weathered stone threshold where an observatory dome meets a rocky geology outcrop. Scattered windblown cedar needles lie in loose clusters against the rough, gray concrete, their reddish-brown hues glowing warmly in the late afternoon light. The cool season air has settled a thin layer of dry debris across the steps, against the smooth, curved metal of the dome edge above. Dramatic, heavy clouds gather in the background sky, casting long, soft shadows that stretch across the uneven ground. To the right, the distant skyline of Downtown Yangon fades into the haze, barely visible through the golden glow. One needle rests on the corner of a cracked stone step, catching the last rays of the sun.
