Freediver Descends Shipwreck in Kitwe Sunset Light
Suspended dust hangs low across the surface of a muddy river channel in Kitwe, obscuring the water beneath a layer of haze. A freediver in a dark wetsuit descends through the murky blue-green water toward the skeletal remains of a sunken shipwreck. The last light of sunset falls across the water, creating dim, diffuse beams that struggle through the heavy particulate matter. Rainy season clouds gather along the horizon, pressing low against the sky. The diver's silhouette moves alongside the rusted, metallic ribs of the wreck, which rest on the riverbed. Ripples distort the fading light on the hull, shifting patterns of gray and dull gold across the wet metal surfaces. The final shadow of the diver falls across the silt, marking the depth where the silhouette merges with the rusted iron.
