Freediver Descending Toward Shipwreck at Twilight
by Kelly Meyer
Indigo twilight washes the river surface near the Douma landing, where heavy overcast skies diffuse the last light into a soft, gray-blue glow. A freediver in a dark wetsuit descends vertically, their streamlined body cutting through the water toward a submerged shipwreck barely visible beneath the ripples. The riverbank rises on the left, lined with early spring reeds and muddy banks that reflect the muted sky. Leading lines formed by the diver's path and the wreck's rusted hull draw the eye downward into the deeper water. Reflections of the overcast clouds shimmer across the surface, creating a fragmented mirror that blurs the boundary between air and depth. A thin layer of algae rests on the rusted metal of the submerged vessel, marking the transition from the dark water to the shadowed interior of the wreck.
