Butter Lamps Glow on Stone Altar in Port Harcourt Temple

Warm flames flicker within a tight circle of small clay butter lamps resting on the rough, gray stone base of a raised altar. The firelight casts deep, orange shadows that climb the rough-hewn walls, against the cool, blue-gray reflected light filtering down from the high vaulted ceiling. Rain streaks blur the distant, tall windows, hinting at the heavy monsoon outside. The flames appear as bright, dancing silhouettes against the dim interior, their yellow cores burning steady despite the surrounding gloom. Dust motes hang suspended in the shafts of light falling across the stone floor. at the edge is one drop of melted wax hardening on the rim of the nearest lamp.
