Fishmonger's Stall in Venice
by Rick Duffy
First light after rain in Venice reveals a narrow canal-side alley where a fishmonger’s stall stands open, the wet cobblestones reflecting the pale gray sky. A worn leather tool roll rests on the edge of the stone counter beside a stainless steel scale, its contents slightly damp from the mist. Nearby, a wooden stool sits empty, its legs slick with condensation. In the background, the spray from a small fountain catches the weak sunlight, creating a fine mist that softens the view of the adjacent building’s weathered plaster facade. A wicker basket casts a long, intricate shadow across the wet ground, mirroring the texture of the ancient brickwork.
