Fireflies Drift Over Rusted Gate Under Izmit Stars in beneath thin cloud gaps and stars near İzmit

Fireflies Drift Over Rusted Gate Under Izmit Stars

by Greg Sutton

Steel-blue twilight air hangs heavy with a thin layer of fog beneath a scattered starfield over the Turkish coast near İzmit. A weathered iron gate stands in the foreground, its surface pitted with deep orange rust and peeling paint that catches the dim ambient light. Dozens of fireflies drift through the humid darkness, their soft yellow-green pulses creating fleeting points of light against the cool background. A shallow puddle at the gate's base reflects the glowing insects and the dark metal, creating a symmetrical mirror image where the real and reflected worlds merge. The rust texture is rough and granular, against the smooth, glassy surface of the water. One spark from a firefly rests on the edge of a jagged rust flake.
