Field Station Lamp Over Boots on Corsican Rock

Flat noon light bleaches the rocky outcrop in Corsica while a single porch lamp glows warmly above a pair of mud-caked research boots. The boots rest on uneven grey stone, their rubber soles thick with wet earth from recent exploration. Dramatic clouds stack high in the sky, casting shifting shadows across the dry mountain surface. The lamp housing is weathered metal, its glass bulb clear against the harsh daylight. Fine dust coats the rock face, against the dark, heavy mud clinging to the boot sides. A small patch of green moss clings to a crevice near the heel of the left boot.
