Brass Transit on Stone Ledge Candlelight

Warm candlelight spills across a brass surveyor's transit mounted on a wooden tripod, resting directly on a rough stone ledge. The metal surfaces gleam with small, sharp highlights where the flickering flames strike the polished brass arcs and sighting mechanisms. Deep shadows pool in the crevices of the weathered wood legs and the uneven masonry beneath. Early winter light from the setting sun filters faintly through a nearby opening, mixing with the orange glow of the candles to cast long, dancing shadows against the textured stone. Dust motes hover in the warm air, catching the light above the instrument's circular scales. One scratch on the brass rim marks years of use, visible in the tight frame.
