Diwali Rooftop Lamps Stone Furniture Twilight Delhi
by Andre Knapp
Rows of glowing oil lamps line the rooftop edge of a temple courtyard in Nizamuddin, Delhi, casting warm orange pools against the sodium-vapor dusk. Low-hanging clouds weigh heavy above the scene, diffusing the twilight into a soft, mysterious haze. In the foreground, traditional wooden chairs and tables sit in stillness, their surfaces partially transformed into rough, grey stone. The grain pattern of the wood remains visible within the hard rock texture, creating a seamless transition from organic material to mineral. The lamps flicker softly, illuminating the dust motes that hang suspended in the air between the stone furniture and the darkening sky. One lamp flame casts a sharp, dancing shadow against the stone leg of a nearby chair, highlighting the texture of the petrified wood.
