Diwali Oil Lamps in Jaipur Temple Courtyard
Soft, diffused morning light falls through dramatic, heavy grey clouds hovering over a Jaipur temple courtyard. Rows of small clay oil lamps, known as diyas, sit in precise lines on the weathered sandstone floor. The stone surface glistens with recent rain, reflecting the warm, flickering orange glow of the flames against the cool, damp grey of the sky. Early autumn air settles over the scene, evidenced by the muted earth tones of the ancient architecture and the wet sheen on the carved pillars. Each lamp casts a distinct, elongated shadow stretching across the wet pavement, leading the eye deep into the receding layers of the courtyard where more lamps fade into the distance. The contrast between the fragile fire and the vast, stormy sky creates a tension of light and dark.
