Domestic Clutter in Adelaide

Bright late morning light floods the narrow laneway behind Rundle Street, illuminating a cluster of domestic clutter leaning against a weathered brick wall. A blue plastic step stool sits precariously atop a stack of empty wine bottles, its rungs dusted with fine Adelaide red dirt. Beside it, a frayed dish towel is draped over a rusted iron deadbolt on a heavy steel door, the fabric catching the strong directional sun. A bottle brush with stiff bristles leans against the wall, its handle stained with soap scum, while water droplets rest on the broad, waxy leaves of a potted bird of paradise plant nearby, glistening under the harsh midday glare.
