Clay Oil Lamp in Jaipur

One clay oil lamp sits on a rough stone ledge in Jaipur, its surface textured by the damp morning air. Mist rests on the darkened wick and the rim of the bowl, softening the edges of the terracotta against the gray light. Behind the lamp, the faint outline of a pink sandstone archway emerges from the haze, at the base of the object in its specific architectural context. A thin trail of smoke curls upward, dissipating quickly into the cool, still air of the dawn.
