Crumbling Concrete Tower in Belarus Ruin

by Henry Pruitt

Sunlight reflects off a shallow pool of water pooling within the roofless nave of a Brutalist apartment tower in Belarus. Rough, grey concrete walls show deep cracks where moss and thin grasses push through the aggregate. Wind sweeps through the empty rooms, bending the green stalks against the weathered surfaces. The structure stands stripped of its roof, exposing the interior to the open sky. A rectangular window frame in the foreground creates a dark border around the central scene, showing the depth of the decay. Patches of orange and brown foliage rest on the lower ledges, signaling the turn of seasons. at the edge is a small cluster of wildflowers growing directly from a fissure in the wet stone floor.
