Copper gears overlay flowing water in Mosul atrium

by Herbert Hendrix

Rich amber sunset light floods the vaulted atrium, casting warm interior shadows across stone surfaces. The air glows with copper tones as the season shifts into early summer. In the foreground, mechanical clock gears rest against a stream of flowing water, their metallic teeth catching the fading light. The water moves smoothly over smooth stones, creating ripples that reflect the warm glow. Overhead, the high vaulted ceiling frames the scene, while the gears appear suspended in the current, their brass and iron textures sharp against the liquid movement. One gear tooth aligns perfectly with a water ripple edge.
