Cedar Needles on Observatory Threshold at Midnight in along a rocky geology outcrop near Prayagraj

Cedar Needles on Observatory Threshold at Midnight

by Maxine Boyle

Glowing red light spills from an open observatory dome onto a rough stone threshold scattered with dry cedar needles. The needles, sharp and brittle, lie across the weathered granite in chaotic layers, their brown and russet hues deepening under the crimson glow. Behind the threshold, a rocky geology outcrop rises into the night sky, its jagged edges softened by the dim illumination. Dramatic clouds swirl overhead, their dark undersides barely visible against the midnight black. The red light casts long, soft shadows across the stones, highlighting the texture of the rock and the delicate structure of the fallen foliage. One needle rests on the edge of the doorframe, catching the faintest reflection of the ambient glow.
