Cattle Salt Block Station Worn Grass Pakistan

by Lily McDowell

Wet earth and sparse green grass surround a weathered rectangular salt block resting inside a dry-stone corral. The white mineral surface shows deep, rounded grooves where hooves have repeatedly pressed against it. Patches of worn soil expose the dark, damp ground beneath the grass, indicating constant use by livestock. The sky above is a vast, cloudless blue, against the muted tones of the wet ground. Soft, diffused light from the late afternoon sun highlights the texture of the rough stone walls and the smooth, salted edges of the block. A faint sheen on the grass blades suggests recent rain has settled. The corner of the stone wall casts a long, soft shadow across the flattened earth near the block.
