Mud dries in cracked patches along the wooden rails of a livestock sale yard near a windbreak and water trough in Gambia. Lot cards stand upright in the foreground, their printed details visible against the muted tones of the season. Sorting gates form a rhythmic pattern of leading lines that guide toward the rear of the enclosure. The sky above is a heavy blanket of overcast clouds, yet the tropical bright light falls through to illuminate the texture of the drying earth and the rough wood. The cool season air settles on the scene, showing the patient labor inherent in the husbandry. One metal latch on the gate reflects the diffuse sky, marking the edge of the frame.
