Cattle Trough Churned Mud After Storm in near a windbreak and water trough in the Russian Far East

Cattle Trough Churned Mud After Storm

by Grace Bradley

Honeyed evening light wraps the horizon, casting a warm glow over a muddy cattle water trough in the Russian Far East. Churned earth surrounds the metal basin, its surface rippled by recent heavy rain and hooves. Low-hanging clouds press against the sky, softening the edges of a nearby windbreak that shelters the livestock area. The ground is a patchwork of dark, wet clay and lighter, dried mud, creating a textured path leading toward the trough. Rust streaks run down the side of the water container, against the fresh, glistening mud clinging to the rim. A faint reflection of the cloudy sky sits in the shallow water, disturbed by the uneven banks.
