Rain slicks the narrow alleyway beside a steamed-up glass bus shelter in Erbil, where low-hanging clouds press against the dark sky. A heavy brick wedges a weathered metal door open just enough to reveal the shadowed interior beyond. Occasional beams from a distant lighthouse sweep across the wet pavement, catching the glistening texture of the brickwork and the condensation on the shelter windows. The light cuts through the gloom, highlighting the rough edges of the masonry and the dark, reflective puddles. one drop of water rests on the bottom corner of the door frame before falling into the gutter below.
