Blurred Birds Launching from Wire in Berlin Arcade

by Tanya Dunlap

Soft, overcast noon light floods the glass-roofed arcade in Prenzlauer Berg, turning the space into a diffused box of muted tones. A horizontal wire cuts diagonally across the upper frame, where a flock of small birds erupts in unison. Their bodies stretch into long, gray streaks of motion blur against the flat, bright ceiling. Below, the polished floor reflects the chaotic movement and the structural lines of the roof in distorted, shimmering patches. The diagonal angle of the birds creates a sharp visual tension against the rigid geometry of the glass panes and metal supports. Dust motes hang suspended in the heavy air, barely visible near the bright upper corners. at the edge is a sharp, dark shadow of the wire stretching across the reflective floor tiles.
