Bioluminescent Plankton Haeundae Shore Night in under a band of cold starlight near Haeundae, Busan

Bioluminescent Plankton Haeundae Shore Night

by Sara Pugh

Cold starlight fractures across the dark, rolling waves of Haeundae beach as early spring clouds hang low above the horizon. Faint remnants of sunset color stain the distant sky, against the electric blue glow of bioluminescent plankton churning within the breaking surf. The water surface acts as a mirror, duplicating the starry band and the luminous foam in a symmetrical composition. Tiny, bright specks cluster along the crests of the waves, creating a sparkling texture against the deep indigo of the sea. The wet sand in the foreground reflects the starlight, while the rhythmic motion of the tide agitates the glowing organisms into a swirling, frothy pattern. One streak of blue light trails along the edge of a receding wave.
