Steel-blue twilight washes the Scottish Highlands, where heavy overcast skies diffuse the fading natural light. The researcher carefully handles small bats, each fitted with a colored identification tag, sorting them into individual cloth pouches. In the distance, the soft glow of city lights begins to pierce the gloom, creating a faint horizon line against the darkening hills.
