Biologist Tagging Monarch Wings Winter Twilight

Reflected light from a nearby frozen water body washes over a wind-scoured research platform in Bavaria during deep winter twilight. A biologist stands centered in a perfect symmetrical composition, holding a monarch butterfly against a gloved hand. The insect's orange and black wings contrast with the researcher's dark winter coat and the gray metal of the equipment housing beside them. Small indicator lights on the metal casings cast sharp red and blue reflections onto the wet surfaces. Snow dusts the railing edges, and the biologist's breath is not visible, yet the cold air seems to settle on the static scene. A faint shimmer on the metal housing mirrors the butterfly's delicate wing patterns.
