Neon light from nearby infrastructure reflects off the dark water surface of a Tijuana marsh, illuminating a biologist standing at the edge. Condensation beads heavily on the cold metal casing of a nearby scientific instrument, dripping slowly onto the ground. The researcher holds a fine mesh net, poised to sweep the reeds, while several specimen envelopes lie ready on a portable tray. Converging lines of a metal railing guide toward a distant vanishing point where the marsh meets the city lights. The scene is frozen in deep winter darkness, with the cold air visible as a faint haze around the metal surfaces. one drop of moisture hangs precariously from the rim of the specimen envelope.
