Biologist Sorting Tagged Bats in Field Station

Soft, diffused light falls through low-hanging monsoon clouds, casting a flat, even glow over a concrete patio beside a white observatory dome. A biologist in a rain-soaked yellow vest works methodically, their hands opening brown cloth bags to reveal small, wet bats with dark fur glistening under the gray sky. Each bat wears a tiny metal tag on its wing, catching a faint, dull reflection. Water droplets rest on the fabric of the bags and the biologist's sleeves, heavy with the recent downpour. The concrete surface is slick with rain, reflecting the muted tones of the surrounding forest and the dome's curved roof. A small plastic vial sits on the table, half-filled with water, its surface rippling slightly.
