Biologist Crouching in Reeds with Vials
by Carl Orozco
Thick, green reeds rise vertically around a crouched figure wearing field trousers and a utility belt. Several glass specimen vials hang from hooks on the belt, catching the dull, diffused light of a heavy overcast sky. The ground is dark and saturated with monsoon water, reflecting the gray clouds above in shallow puddles. The biologist's hands rest near the waterline, fingers positioned as if ready to collect a sample. Muted greens and browns dominate the palette, broken only by the clear glass and the silver metal clips. The shallow depth of field blurs the distant reed tips, keeping focus sharp on the belt and the water's surface texture. One reflection of a vial ripples gently in the dark water below.
